Better Sleep Month

2009 marks the fourth year of the Better Sleep Council’s (BSC) five year plan to focus key messages around a central sleep-health theme and build outreach efforts. Focusing on a holistic lifestyle, the campaign this year will educate consumers about how stress can impair sleep and overall well-being.
Specifically, the BSC will leverage the sleep-stress relationship identified in the latest Oklahoma State University (OSU) research findings published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine. Given the cyclical sleep-stress connection, BSC spokesperson and lifestyle expert Lissa Coffey will provide consumers with simple steps to maintain a balanced lifestyle, including how to reduce stress and achieve a good night's rest. With support from the recent OSU findings that show significant increases in sleep quality and reductions in pain when sleeping on a new mattress, Lissa will also share mattress evaluation and replacement tips as part of the Better Sleep Month campaign.
The BSC has also formed a partnership with the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association representing dietary supplement manufacturers and suppliers. The partnership strengthens key Better Sleep Month campaign messages on how consumers can achieve a well-balanced lifestyle by incorporating the importance of health and nutrition along with proper sleep and exercise.
The Better Sleep Month program officially kicked off on May 6th as Lissa Coffey participated in a satellite media tour, speaking with over 20 local and national broadcast outlets around the country about the importance of sleep to physical performance.
