Mattress Component Recycling Work Group
Charge:
To help facilitate and improve the commercial viability of responsible used mattress disposal, by:
- Consulting with existing and proposed disposal operations to understand obstacles they face, consider alternatives, and explore action that ISPA might take to advance those programs
- Engaging academic institutions to study and critique new operations and provide insights on possible markets for used materials recovered from mattress disposal operations
- Researching and compiling existing end of product life management programs for mattresses and related products
- Monitoring and engaging government policy makers and non-governmental organizations to promote industry initiatives in place of regulations that could affect used mattress disposal
- Identifying “best practices” and benchmarks for relevant end of product life management systems
- Conducting mattress component life cycle analyses to guide industry decision making
- Identifying funding and partnership opportunities from both private and government sectors
- Identifying 4-6 new markets and potential operators for future mattress disposal programs
- Setting goals and measuring performance
Work Group will report and make recommendations to ISPA’s Mattress Sustainability Steering Committee.
