Sustainability Goals

The Mattress Industry's Sustainability Initiative focuses on the following goals:

1. Improve options for responsible disposal and recycling of used mattress components on a national scale
2. Identify and publicize best practices in the mattress industry regarding materials and production methods, as well as recycling practices, to keep the industry abreast of new developments in the sustainability arena
3. Design a certification or seal program that would recognize manufacturers, products and/or retailers that meet defined sustainability criteria in the production, marketing and sale of new mattresses and the disposal of used products, to help consumers identify those companies and products
4. Monitor actions by government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) (such as environmental groups) that could affect the mattress industry's sustainability efforts
5. Educate consumers about the industry's positive environmental track record and efforts to recycle used mattresses
