Responsible for the full scope of manufacturing operations. Manages services and programs which enable the Company and Plant to be best-cost producers of high quality products; delivered on a timely and efficient basis. Responsibilities include management of production planning and control; transportation and shipping/receiving; plant and equipment maintenance; quality control; and employee health and safety.

1. Manages the manufacturing and delivery operation to attain Plant and Company goals for production, quality, cost and delivery. Coordinates with the Plant Controller and Sales Manager in matters related to production, delivery, customer service and quality.

2. Identifies and implements systems and procedures designed to provide timely and superior service to the customer. Monitors and analyzes Plant manufacturing practices, and recommends and implements cost reduction/efficiency improvement programs as needed. Participates in the development of new products, components and equipment.

3. Implements materials management systems and controls in order to ensure best cost and services. These include purchasing, sourcing, price and component supply, and outsourcing of functions. Coordinates with the Director of Merchandising as needed.

4. Supervises, schedules and evaluates the work performance of assigned personnel; which may be accomplished through the management of supervisors and group leaders. Fosters positive working relationships, and responds proactively to performance concerns; discipline; employee complaints, concerns or problems; and other employee relation matters. Ensures consistency in the application of Company policies and procedures.

5. Ensures the integrity of incentive and hourly wage systems. Communicates changes to employees.

6. Directs the overall health and safety program for the plant and ensures compliance with company policies, OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations, and other Federal, State and local statutes. Oversees the work of the Plant Administrator in order to accomplish this function, and acts as liaison with regulatory agencies, local fire departments, area hospitals, and other outside safety-related agencies.

7. Directs the overall facility and grounds maintenance program. Establishes and maintains adequate security regulations and procedures in order to protect physical assets of the plant and employee property from fire, theft, sabotages or other situations that endanger the well-being of employees or facilities and equipment.

  Education, Training and Experience
1. Bachelor’s degree in technical, management or related field preferred
2. Ten years experience in a Plant/manufacturing operations management
3. Familiarity with Federal, State and local health and safety regulations
4. Knowledge of spreadsheet and database software
5. Management experience in the bedding industry REQUIRED

3. Ability to interpret and support company standards, policies and procedures and/or those established by Federal, State or local agencies.

1. Supervision of: Plant Supervisors, Purchasing Agent/Buyer, Plant Administrator, Shipping & Receiving Clerk and all Plant Manufacturing employees
2. Reports to: Group VP of Manufacturing
