Established in 1979, the Better Sleep Council (BSC) is a non-profit organization supported by the mattress industry. The BSC is devoted to educating the public about the importance of sleep to good health and quality of life and about the value of the sleep system and sleep environment in pursuit of a good night’s sleep.
As the consumer education arm of the International Sleep Products Association, the BSC creates public relations and marketing campaigns that are geared to increase awareness about you + quality mattress = sleep. It is the BSC’s goal to “wake up” the world, and awaken them to the importance of sleeping 7-8 hours on a comfortable, supportive mattress. The largest of its campaigns is in May, during Better Sleep Month.
The BSC reaches out to the industry and consumers via a mix of traditional, social and digital media platforms. Over the years, the Better Sleep Council has grown to become one of the leading resources for the press and consumers about mattresses, mattress shopping and sleep/health tips. There is a wide variety of resources out there, but the BSC is unique in that all information is unbiased, not promoting one specific brand or type.
We have been featured in such publications as Elle Décor, Women’s Day, Shape, SHOPSMART;) USAToday, Brides, Amtrak’s Arrive, Oprah.com, AOL.com, Yahoo.com, Consumer Reports, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Woman’s World, New York Post, MSNBC, Ladies’ Home Journal, Chicago Tribune, Martha Stewart Living, About.com, and not to mention various national radio and television affiliates.
ISPA Members have access to additional research geared towards understanding consumer spending habits and helping mattress manufacturers better connect with their target demographics.
The Better Sleep Council uses videos to support its messaging and campaigns. You can view them on the BSC’s YouTube channel!
