ISPA’s 1st Quarter 2012 Bedding Barometer reports year-to-date unit shipments and wholesale revenues increased by 10.1% and 19.2%, respectively, over 2011 levels. Average unit price (AUP) for the quarter also increased 8.2% year-to-date. The participating companies reported positive quarterly data for units and sales for innerspring and non-innerspring mattresses and foundations. Likewise, all regions reported year-to-date positive quarterly data for units and sales. For the month of March 2012, however, unit shipments were 4.1% lower than last year, while wholesale revenues for March 2012 increased by 4.2% over 2011, resulting in a March 2012 AUP that was 8.7% above last year.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 18 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for nearly 65% of the mattress units shipped and nearly 74% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2010. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
