Covered in this week’s ISPA Insider:

Last Friday, California state Senators Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) and Ron Calderon (D-Montebello) visited Blue Marble Materials, a new mattress recycling facility in Commerce, CA, to call for the passage of SB 245 –  practical mattress recycling legislation supported by ISPA that will improve mattress recycling in California in a cost effective manner.

California state Senators Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) and Ron Calderon (D-Montebello)

Senator Correa introduced SB 245 and Senator Calderon is supporting the legislation as the co-author.  The Senate’s Environmental Quality (EQ) Committee has scheduled a hearing on SB 245 for April 17th. ISPA opposes competing mattress recycling legislation introduced by California Senator Loni Hancock because it is costly and inefficient.  Senator Hancock’s bill will also be considered during the same hearing.  We anticipate that the EQ Committee will make important decisions about both bills as a result of this hearing.

In anticipation of the hearing, we ask that all ISPA members that have operations in California TAKE ACTION and send a quick, easy pre-written letter to your legislators in the state expressing your support for Senator Correa’s bill and expressing your opposition to Senator Hancock’s separate legislation.  PLEASE ACT TODAY AND SEND IN YOUR LETTER.

If you have not already done so, we also ask that you join our coalition, Californians for Mattress Recycling (C4MR), to stay informed about further developments regarding the California mattress recycling bills.
