ISPA Releases First Quarter 2013 Bedding Barometer

ISPA’s 1st Quarter 2013 Bedding Barometer reports year-to-date unit shipments and wholesale revenues decreased by 3.2% and 3.3%, respectively, over 2012 levels. Average unit price (AUP) for the quarter remained almost flat, decreasing only slightly by 0.1% year-to-date. The month of March 2013 also showed a decrease over March 2012 levels, in both unit shipments and wholesale revenues, of 1.7 % and 3.3%, respectively. The March 2013 AUP also showed a decrease of 1.7%.

The Bedding Barometer reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 16 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for just over 66% of the mattress units shipped and 75.5% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2011. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Barometer results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of workdays and holiday promotions in a given month, weather conditions, non-reporting manufacturers entering or exiting the market and other variables.
